July Social Media Recap

It's our favourite part of the month! Time to recap everything that has happened in the social media world recently.

July Social Media Recap

Instagram Launches Threads

The biggest update of this month was the release of Instagram's Twitter alternative, Threads. We previously were tracking the updates on this app (which was codenamed "Barcelona", before it's release as "Threads"), and we're so excited to see the app up and running!

Threads is a standalone app, but it is linked to your Instagram account, meaning that your handle and all your followers from Instagram are synced on this new app. This is so helpful, as you can carry over your community, instead of having to start from 0.

You can share text, videos, and photos on Threads, as well as reply to the people you follow and re-share other posts that you love.

Users were excited for this launch, especially since Twitter has been facing its fair share of controversy, and people wanted a new way to share their thoughts. Threads became the fastest growing app in history, as it reached 100 million users in only five days!

Despite the quick rise in users, it's still up for debate whether this app will make it in the long run.

We will keep you updated on the metrics behind Threads, so be sure to stay tuned our blog.

Instagram Broadcast Channels for all Creators

Another exciting feature that launched on Instagram was Broadcast Channels for all creators. Previously, this was only available to select influencers that were chosen by Instagram.

Instagram has noticed that users are spending more time in their direct messages, so they created Broadcast Channels to let creators leverage these habits.

With Broadcast Channels, creators can now send mass direct messages to followers who have chosen to join their channel. Channels are a one-to-many messaging system, meaning those following the channel cannot respond to the messages. However, they can react to messages in the channel, and also participate in polls.

In the future, Channels will allow collaborations with guests, and question boxes where followers can submit their inquiries to the creator.

Whose Channels have you been joining?

TikTok Shopping

TikTok has been testing adding a Shopping feature into their app, and now users are starting to see it pop up in their app.

The response to TikTok Shopping has been mixed, as other apps like Instagram have shut down their shopping pages due to lack of engagement from users, but TikTok is determined to get this feature running, especially since it has been so successful in Asia.

When your business sets up TikTok Shopping, people can shop products featured in your TikTok videos directly from the app.
