Barcelona, Meta's Alternative for Twitter, is Getting Ready For Public Release

If you read our last social media recap, the name Barcelona will sound familiar to you.

Barcelona is Meta's own version of Twitter. They've been working hard on getting the app ready for the public, and it’s rumoured that the release could be as soon as the end of June!

The app is being marketed as a text-based version of Instagram. You’ll be able to sign into Barcelona with your Instagram credentials, so your handle will be the same, making it easier for people to recognize you or your brand. When creating your account, you can also sync your Instagram following to the app. This is super helpful, since follower growth on a new platform can be one of the hardest parts of getting started.

Since Meta has seen an increase in Instagram DMs over the last few years, Barcelona is being marketed as a “giant group chat” open to everybody. Text updates can be up to 500 characters, and users can add links, photos, and videos.

Meta is currently reaching out to creators and celebrities to grant them early access to the app

TikTok and In-App Music Discovery

TikTok has inadvertently become the place to find the newest and coolest artists. Songs that blow up on TikTok now end up on the radio, and are even nominated for Grammy's

It’s clear that TikTok is an effective platform for emerging artists, and so, they decided to launch an In-App Music Hub

The #NewMusic Hub acts as a page that will highlight new releases from both new and established artists. This way, fans can stay up-to-date on their favourite artists, and find new ones in similar genres.

#NewMusic Hub will also show trending songs, which will be helpful for creators when they are trying to find the hottest audio tracks.

This isn't the first time TikTok has worked to help get music out to the public. TikTok's Work With Artists feature is another program that was launched this month.

Work With Artists allows emerging artists to give creators paid incentives to use their songs. Creators will get paid for their work based on engagement, and artists can have their music reach a larger audience. It's a win-win!

Instagram and UGC

UGC Creators are on the rise, as audiences trust the opinion of influencers and friends more than traditional advertising.

Business pages will now be able to add posts that creators have shared into their own Instagram Shop. Adding User Generated Content into shops is beneficial for both the creator and the business because:

  1. Creators will be credited for their work, helping to grow their portfolio, as their work is being showcased by the brand.

  2. Brands are humanized and trusted, as people can see that other consumers have been using (and loving) their product! Small businesses using UGC in their shop also increases reach and discovery through the creator's audience.

If this sounds too confusing, don't worry! We work with trusted influencers and UGC creators in your brand sector, so you can sit back and relax.
